June is here, at last!

Well, my three years at college are nearly over. The last module has been submitted, production of copious cushions, lampshades and other display paraphernalia is well underway and I have my sights on New Designers in London.

This amazing degree show features graduating students from all over the country. It’s open to the public and tickets can be bought online or on the door at the Business Design Centre in Islington.

It’s a great show for finding new talent as well as introducing young people to the career opportunities in the creative industries and also checking out different universities and the courses they offer.

If you do visit please come and say Hi to the seven students from Somerset College on Stand T12. We are a mixture of Textile & Surface, Fashion Textiles and Fashion Designers working with a range of materials from wood, copper, magnetic wallpaper, fabric, slate, glass and incorporating digital printing, screen printing, metalwork, embroidery and illustration.

In the meantime we still have our Creative Arts Show to arrange and at the moment we are painting the White Space gallery at Somerset College in readiness.  It’s feeling a little unloved and overshadowed by the newly refurbished Arts House building but we are showing it some love and hopefully it will look great for opening night on Fri 10th June.  As we have all been beavering away on our individual projects we have not had much time to see what the Fashion Designers have been up to so it will be exciting to see their catwalk show.

I haven’t started panicking yet that this experience is coming to an end but I’m sure that over the next month it will start to sink in.  Time to find another challenge!  Hopefully the next one will come with a salary or fees attached.  That would be nice!
