Illustrator vs Me – I WON!

Today has been a battle with Illustrator but I finally cracked it and claim victory!  I will not be beaten by a machine.

I have completed both the Beginner and Intermediate briefs from Make It In Design today.

The first brief called for jewels.  I chose the bright peacock palette for my colours and doodled some gems.

The resulting pattern was a nightmare to produce as Illustrator was not behaving as it should.  In the end I did the best I could and produced a repeating pattern.

I got back to it after a break for a late lunch – OK I forget to eat when I’m designing! and a dose of my guilty pleasure – Millionaire Matchmaker.   It’s my thing, let it go!

The next brief called for feathers and as I had already scanned some pheasant feathers in a previous Uni project I used these for my theme.  I wanted this to be a simple and calm design for an interior but was also keen to put to use some of the techniques that i picked up last week from Creative Live such as the copy and rotate, pattern repeat clipping and trim and pattern swatches.

I think I managed just about all of that to produce my design.

Now it has to be time to stop for the evening. Tomorrow is a day off and then I will throw myself into the final Advanced brief.

I will really miss Summer School once this has finished but will be rejoining Make It In Design in October for their amazing Art & Business of Surface Pattern Design courses.

You can still register for these courses if you would like to join me.
